TEXTBOOKS & RESOURCES

Most qualification students are required to purchase some textbooks. We limit this as much as we can to ensure study is affordable for you.

Your welcome email and course handbook will detail what textbooks are mandatory for your course. You MUST have access to any mandatory texts listed for your course. The cost of these textbooks is not included in your course fees.

Short Course Students

If you are a short course student, we  will supply you with chapters from textbooks as necessary unless we’ve told you otherwise.

ACVN Students

All students at ACVN are required to purchase the BSAVA Textbook of Veterinary Nursing, 6th Edition.

Certificate III & IV students will also need to purchase the Introduction to Veterinary Anatomy & Physiology, 4th Edition.

All other resources will be provided by us.

Every course (except RPL pathways) come with printed learner’s guides at no extra charge.

Depending on your course, there may be one folder, or several. If there is more than one, your next folder will not be sent until you complete everything required for your first folder.

Unfortunately PDF copies of learner’s guides and other resources are not available.

If for any reason you need to replace a learner’s guide, entire folder, or other supplied resource, there is a small charge for this.

Whilst we supply you with everything you need to pass the course, in combination with the mandatory textbooks, it is recommended that you undertake further reading including journal articles. For Diploma students, this is a must.

Subscribing to journal articles can be expensive and you should talk to your clinic to see what they have available.

The cheapest way to access many journals is via the UK’s RCVS Library Trust. They have a cheap subscription model for online journal access that veterinary nurses can take advantage of http://knowledge.rcvs.org.uk/

You can also look at becoming a member of the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia so you can receive their journal. Other options include subscribing to The Veterinary Nurse, or joining the NZ Veterinary Nursing Association, and the British  Veterinary Nursing Association as they also include journals as part of their membership benefits.
