FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We’ve designed this course to be completed in 24 months.

We find most students need to dedicate at least 10 hours per week for studying the theory component at home (e.g. undertaking the required reading and completing the written assessment tasks). You'll also be completing hours in the clinic for your practical assessments but these will vary depending on your caseload and the subject/s you are currently studying.

You must regularly submit assessments (written or practical) to ensure you remain active and not be flagged for inactivity. If you do not submit an assessment for 8 weeks you can be withdrawn as Failure to Progress. Please refer to the handbook here for information on remaining active.

Of course, you can complete the course more quickly if you wish.

Additional fees apply if you want to extend your studies, and you can extend up to another 2 years. View the extension policy here.

The course is a blended program. This means it is delivered by distance education using our online ‘Learning Centre’ and printed learning resources, combined with employment in a veterinary clinic. This allows students the flexibility to study around work and life. There are no compulsory on-campus classes.

We provide printed learner’s resources for all subjects (across several folders released as the student progresses). Students will also need to purchase the BSAVA Textbook of Veterinary Nursing (6th Edition) and Introduction to Veterinary Anatomy & Physiology (3rd or 4th Edition) by Victoria Aspinall.

Having access to other veterinary nursing textbooks is also recommended but not required. We supply a range of textbooks you can access via our Library.
